A bee gathering pollen from a dewberry blossom

It’s been a couple of weeks since we moved to the ranch, and we’ve been settling in and taking stock of where we are and what our next steps are. Our plan is to start with producing honey — especially since having bees on the property will be beneficial for just about everything else we do out here.

In the meantime we’re enjoying exploring the property and getting to know our new home. Things are starting to bloom and bud, and we’ve found quite a bit of wildlife as well. There are deer who wander through the back pasture, coyotes howling at night, and we’ve seen both hawks and owls. Not all of this bodes well for keeping small livestock, but I don’t think the bees will mind.
